We’re really lucking out with the weather this festival season! With the sun beating down on Hyde Park and with the overwhelming amount of stalls, it’s easy to miss out on the details. So we’ve created a short list of highlights and the things you may have missed from last Sunday’s British Summertime, or things to keep an eye out for if you’re planning on going to any of the star-studded line ups!
First up, Explore!
There’s so much more to discover at BST. If you get down earlier in the day you’ll have time to wander around the site to see what it truly has to offer. Much like many of the bigger festivals, BST featured a vast amount of established food and drink stalls, with a multitude of cuisines – even managing to authentically bring the rustic atmosphere of Cuba to our very own Hyde Park with Casa Bacardi! With many interactive stalls set up from McDonalds, Coca Cola and more, you’re sure to cement the memories of your day in creative ways. Did we mention there’s even a mini fairground and several smaller ‘hidden’ stages? BST have nailed festival fun all without the hassle of a long journey or camping!

The Summer Stage – a showcase of upcoming talent!
Whilst we’re on the topic of the Smaller Stages we took the time to check out The Summer Stage. Hidden to the side of the mainstage on a picturesque summer bandstand hidden within the greenery of Hyde Park, it was the perfect setting for a summer festival! Highlights from this included the Norwegian rising pop star Dagny who blew the crowd away with her effortlessly cool style and sultry vocals. Another stand out was from Leeds-based four-piece Skinny Living – the perfect mix of indie rock with soulful vocals and four part harmonies. We feel that this is the stage for real upcoming talent.
There’s a theme that’s occurring in pop music at the moment and that’s girl power. As the mainstage packed out early, French singer-songwriter Jain opened the mainstage in style. First discovered on Myspace by her now-manager, she showed the audience why she really is mainstage-material by performing her feel good hit-single Makeba. Next up, British singer-songwriter Anne-Marie. She’s had a pretty successful year adding to her five charting singles in the UK chart. Despite no Clean Bandit appearance, she owned the stage with smash-hit ‘Rockabye’ and had the whole crowd singing by the end of her set– making us super excited for her debut album which we’re expecting later this year. The talent didn’t stop there, though. Tove Lo showed us exactly why she’s one of the most exciting rising stars! Hit after hit, there was no stopping the pop starlet. Last but definitely not least, came a surprise appearance from another Brit-star Dua Lipa! Bracing the stage to join Martin Garrix for their collaboration ‘Scared to be Lonely’.

Don’t be put off by the day time party!
Martin Garrix proved that there’s no wrong time to get your party on at British Summertime Festival taking to the stage in broad daylight at 6:30pm, we’ve never seen more people get into the true festival party spirit so early. Performing most of his own material, Garrix proved exactly why he’s one of the world’s best (and youngest!) DJs. No frills but with perfect mixing, Garrix gave a flawless EDM set complete with CO2 cannons galore – he definitely made this BST one of the most memorable and fun days!
Bieber’s raw talent
Regardless of having what he described as a rough week nothing could stop Justin Bieber taking to the stage in style – quite literally, based on his outfit changes. Justin proved that despite his illness (he could have easily pulled the gig!) he can still put on quite the performance. Showing that he wasn’t messing around he went straight in with “Where Are U Now”which is exactly what the crowd needed to set the tone for the night. Other highlights included a heart-warming performance of Children along with the backing of young dancers he brought out. But let’s not forget to mention the acoustic segment; Bieber surprised fans with his stripped-back version of Major Lazer’s Cold Water followed by Love Yourself and a cover of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad’. Whatever your opinions are of the guy the 23 year old showed the 50,000 people stood in front of him how exceptionally talented he really is with just an acoustic guitar for backing.
